Tour Tenerife with the Green Bearded Bard

Bard of Ely is Green Beard at Flicks Bar

I have become a regular performer at Flicks Bar in Amarilla Bay on Tenerife island, where I am introduced as Green Beard. When I play my cover version of Stand by Me a group of bar staff and the compere and anyone else who wants to get involved all put on greenbeard masks and join me on stage singing, clapping and dancing along. Singer Steve Delsy is the new compre at Flicks.

The afternoon cabaret starts around 2pm and finishes at 6. Here are some pics of past and present performers:

Charlie Hodge sings Neil Diamond

Robbie Allen sings a duet with Shelly who won Pop Idol Tenerife 2002

John Ashford as Buddy Holly

Cy Benson used to headline the afternoon cabaret

Sunday dinners are served, which you can enjoy while the entertainment goes on and there is usually a raffle too..

In summer the stage goes outside so you can sit and eat and drink and sunbathe while you enjoy the music in an area between the bar and the deep blue sea.

Brujas Meson Bar is an excellent venue

Just outside El Fraile, behind the Repsol garage and next to a banana plantation, is Brujas, which in my opinion is one of the best venues for live music on Tenerife island. Every last Friday of the month they have a well-supported jam night featuring some excellent rock and jazz funk musicians as well as singers and anyone who fancies a spot. It kicks off late around 11 pm and carries on till 3 am but the bar is open before that and there is an excellent restaurant too.

Brujas also has other gigs in the week by all sorts of acts. Phone 922733569 for details.

Here is a pic of my friend Lisa-Marie Glover who was visiting from the UK backed by some of the regular musicians:

One World Beat 'Give a Child a Chance' gig

OasisFM/Oxfam Tsunami relief gig at the Soul Seller

On Friday 14th of January, Oasis FM helped Oxfam's tsunami relief campaign by holding a benefit gig at the Soul Seller in Las Americas. Oasis DJs Maggie Lennard and Mel Faulkner were both there and an incredible cast of over 20 bands and entertainers including The Drifters (one of whom is pictured on the left), The Lizard Kings, T3, Jawara, The Wild Boys, Lou Rex, Katie Kennedy, The Blues Brothers, Divine Intervention, Robbie Dominic and many more. For all those who may be disappointed by finding a music scene dominated by karaoke and acts who use backing tracks, the night showed that there are bands and musicians here like the Lizard Kings and Divine Intervention who can and do play real live music. T3 rocked the joint too playing covers of classics by ZZ Top and Status Quo amongst other material. The Wild Boyz did the hit song they are named after and had the dance floor full of energetic dancers and the audience singing and clapping! Jawara sang his new single and looks set for going all the way to the top. The Drifters performed all the old hits in their very cool and soulful way and were a fantastic blast from the past! Everyone had a great time and, most importantly, a lot of money was raised, and a big round of applause is surely due to all the organisers, entertainers and everyone who attended!

Alan the Harp

Alan the Harp plays blues harmonica as well as the guitar and he performs a variety of cover songs in the pop, rock, folk and blues genres. He is an accomplished singer and has an impressive musical CV having been involved with the rock music scene in the London area for many years. Alan has relocated to Tenerife and has been appearing live at various venues including a residency at the Stage Door, Las Americas and regular spots at Flicks Bar, Amarilla Bay.
